Former SVT CEO Christina Jutterström has suggested that SR and SVT should be merged, arguing that separate radio and television companies are an anachronism in the modern age. Current SVT CEO Eva Hamilton says it’s a “political question” , which is a polite way of saying that SVT is interested; SR CEO Kerstin Brunnberg rejects the proposal out of hand, citing concerns about a likely reduced income for radio.
I have no strong opinions on whether this would be a good move, but Brunnberg’s defence is unconvincing. She notes that SR enjoys higher levels of confidence than other media - but opinion polls in other countries show that radio is more trusted than television.
