Walter Veltroni has recently been getting pissed off with Italia dei Valori (IdV), accusing it of being responsible and ruining any possibility of an alliance. Apparently, his voters don’t see it that way. They most want an alliance with IdV, followed by an alliance with the Communists and Greens.
Unfortunately, there seems to have been no restriction on the number of possible choices respondents could make, so even the alliance with the UDC convinces a relatively high percentage of respondents (44%) .
Can we interpret Veltroni as the Downsian political enterpreneur who wants to shift the party to the centre whilst the base resists?
