If only it had local news for the area in which I live, I would buy La Stampa as my newspaper of choice instead of Repubblica.
This quote, from Valerio Castronovo’s Fiat, made me even more inclined to like the Turin-based newspaper:
“Torino non era il luogo più adatto per un gran funambolo qual era Malaparte… perché aveva a che fare… con “redattori tipicamente torinesi nel senso peggiore della parola, cioè sospettosi e lontani, poco communicativi”
“Torino wasn’t the best place for a tightrope-walker like Malaparte… it had to do with `typically Torinese editors in the worst sense of that word, that is, suspicious and remote, uncommunicative”
Whilst I enjoyed the one book of Malaparte I’ve read, I quite like the image that came to mind of the suspicious Torinese editor rebuffing his bluster…
